An Evening with Fiona Ma and the CA API Legislative Caucus

At BTR TMRW, we believe that building a better future isn’t just about individual success—it’s about the strength of our collective movement. This week, I had the honor of attending the CA API Legislative Caucus Institute’s Community Conversations Dinner, featuring California State Treasurer Fiona Ma.

It was a powerful reminder of why we do this work.

The Power of Shared Experience

Hearing Treasurer Ma speak about her personal and professional journey was both inspiring and grounding. In a room full of AAPI changemakers and local elected officials, the energy was palpable. It wasn’t just a networking event; it was a space for meaningful conversation and shared experiences that bridge the gap between policy and community impact.

Building Movements, Not Just Moments

As a "movement builder," I am constantly looking for ways to connect the dots between leadership and systemic change. Events like these highlight three key pillars that resonate with our mission at BTR TMRW:

  • Visibility Matters: Seeing AAPI leaders in high-level office paves the way for the next generation of "system designers."

  • Collective Commitment: Leadership is most effective when it is rooted in community needs and shared goals.

  • Connection is Fuel: Strengthening our relationships with fellow advocates ensures that our movement remains resilient and forward-looking.

What’s Next?

The "Community Conversations" dinner was a beautiful spark, but the real work happens in the days following. We left the evening feeling energized to continue our work with The BTR TMRW Academy and our ongoing projects, ensuring that the insights shared by leaders like Fiona Ma are translated into action within our own communities.

A huge thank you to the CA API Legislative Caucus Institute for hosting such a vital gathering. We look forward to many more conversations that challenge us to think bigger and build better.
